Like a Boy Scout….

Always be prepared!!! Being a New Yorker (who listens to a lot of Brian Lehrer) Once or twice a year I decide that it is important to be prepared in case of an emergency. If you were here during Sept 11, 2001 or the NorthEast-Black-Out of 03, you know what I’m saying. Especially because I have had kids since those events. So drinking away the August heat with whatever cash you have left in your pocket doesn’t appeal to me like it does to some. Well, maybe it does appeal, but is not practicaly advisable for a man with my responsibilites. I always feel excited about preparation until I go to spend a bunch of money on a backpack full of stuff I may never use, and then I usually lose steam, and don’t follow up. Well not amymore. Amazons handy listmania has convinced me otherwise. There are an overwhelming number of these lists. You only have yourself to blame if you find yourself unprepared.
Luckily, Amazon has a couple of lists to help you in your preparation.
Zombie Survival Equipment Required for the defense of a building.
By D Flory Deathman
Ka-Bar Black Cutlass Machete by Ka Bar. $39.58
“nice to have for slashing and foliage depletion.depletion is good because it maximises view.use to bleed out neck. RECOMMENDED”
Humvee Twin Pack Shaker Lights by Humvee. $16.49
“these flashlights are gods gift for survivors. they require no batteries, are lightweight, and are waterproof. buy them beforehand, or sit in the dark 12 hours a day. RECOMMENDED”
Zombie Apocalypse Survival Gear
By K Bottger, Zomboligist A little more esoteric he has lots of books in his list in case you get tired of braining zombies and want to take a break to read I guess.
SAS Urban Survival Handbook by John “Lofty” Wiseman. $12.21
“While you should avoid urban areas like they are filled with undead monsters that want to eat your brain (they are), should you find yourself in one, this book will be quite helpful.”
Bone Saw. Out of stock
“Remember what I said about how to deal with the infection…”
Marmot Gravity Jacket by Marmot. $99.97 - $114.99
“A good, light weight, water proof jacket is very important. A bonus, this jacket conforms well to the body. Baggy clothes just give zombies something to hold on to as they eat your face.”
And Finally…
In the Event of a Zombie
By K Bowden Stewart
The list author says: “This is a list that addresses the “reality” of zombie survival as far as the popular culture of our country is concerned. The items are based around a less-than-intelligent, under-coordinated, and while somewhat strong and can be fast moving does not have the sense enough to climb a ladder. A foe that can and will kill many unprepared persons, but is no real threat to a prepared and attentive individual. Focus on blunt and crushing weapons, not stabbing or slashing ones as your primary goal is to destroy the brain and a good concussion can do the job. Also, there is no need to get up armored with some full plate mail when a carhartt coverall is near impossible for a dog to bite through. Above all, know thy enemy, survive, and have fun bashing skulls.
But, seriously I am considering these Nova Training classes. Seems like a good idea. When shit goes down, it seems to me you are either helping, being helped or in the way.
