Jamil GS is a Photographers Photographer who also directs. He is an American Dane residing in New York. He is partially self taught and has studied under the Scandinavian fashion photographers Kenneth Willard and Patrik Andersson in New York. Prior to that, he studied fine art and graffiti in Copenhagen, then the streets of New York and at Parsons School of Design in New York. Since the mid 90’s he has been his own company and has taken both documentary photos from the streets, fashion series and portraits of an impressive number of world famous celebrities and recording artists for personal portrait sittings, advertising as well as for international music and lifestyle magazines like English I-D, Trace, Face, Arena and American Rolling Stone, Vibe, King, Frank, Complex, and the New York Times Magazine. Several of Jamil GS’ photos remain part of the permanent collection of the art and design museum Victoria & Albert in London. Likewise his work has been exhibited at Houston Galleries in Seattle, Gallerie Laforet in Tokyo, Studio 407 in Chelsea New York, Urban Arts Museum in New York, Nom de Guerre in New York and at the Cincinnatti Art Center in collabo with artist Brent Rollins. Further more he has also co-published four of his now collectible GS-STICKUPS calendars with like minded brands such as Hysteric Glamour, Supreme, Premium Goods and Made.
Jamil draws inspiration from whatever he finds sexy as well as what he calls the “HI-LOW”, a term he has coined that stems straight from the highest level of society to the lowest level of the streets, he explains “one persons high is another persons low” and vice versa. Jamil has captured memorable sessions from New York, L.A., Miami, Atlanta, Rio, Jamaica, London, Paris, Copenhagen, Tokyo and Micronesia.

Jamil’s work continues to gather strong interest and his limited edition prints are becoming sought by serious collectors. A hefty compilation of his sexier works are currently being documented and ready for publishing in a state of the art coffee table book by AKA, God knows when’.

All though Jamil’s present commitment is to his personal art work and film, his commercial work of the past include directing commercial TV spots, Music videos and shooting national print ad campaigns for Nike, Supreme, New Era, Reebok, Levi’s, Budweiser and major record labels.

Jamil continues to live and create in New York.
