A little freakin on the weekend…

This article was posted by Keo 3 years, 3 months, 4 weeks, 1 Day, 19 hours, 49 minutes ago.

A little freakin on the weekend…

Easin’ in

Another action packed weekend for the Kid.
First stop: The Playboy Mansion Fifth Avenue, NY Headquarters.
What better spot for the Playboy Todd James to throw his show?
Grimace gets his Chelsea Pier-Pressure on.
Now Reas knows how to throw a party. There was free White Castle burgers flowing aaaaaaaaall night. All the beautiful people were there…

In fact, so many people I couldn’t see the artwork, but hell, we all know art openings aint about art… it’s about FASHION!
ESPO-LO puts it on.
My main mango Dr.NoLove
But the surprise of the night had to be the reappearance of the legendary SLAVE T.F.5 T.O.P.
REAS, GREG aka GLI 167, and SLAVE.
yeah, that Slave.
Brooklyn Style Master Mutherfuckin Slave Fabulous Motherfuckin Five Slave.

The following night we roll up 20th street trying to find the Doze show
KURL by Omega B-Boy Doze
My baby looked straight out of a Jamel Shabazz shot from ‘82 with the vintage Kangora joint.
must be getting close…
look at all the Dust-Heads. Know I KNOW we found the spot!
The place is packed with luminaries…
What up Sade!
Oh schnap! It’s Sacha and the lovely Raquel.
I see dead people.
This jam aint for everybody, only the sexy people.
The Shirt King PHADE TNT TC5… nice hat.
George had a good hat and an attitude to match. Double RL Camo joint? WHAT?
Alot of nice hats that night, but the prize has to go to:
The man of the HOUR with the hat of the night. This joint was some kind of 6 panel nylon Kangol with detatachable French Foreign Legion Desert/Jungle proteck-yo-neck flap. With the vintage JVC retro-fit hard-wired to the i-pod, this dude was straight Son of Bazerk!
ZULU, Gestapo! Dash167, Devious Doze, and Big Jeff Zulu.
Now if you know Big Jeff, you know Big Jeff ALWAYS knows where the party at. He suggested we head downtown for DJ Eclipse’s surprise birthday jammy. We flew down the West Side Hwy to Filli Ponte, where the food was banging and free. All you can eat thin crust pizzas, grilled vegetables, some knda fried mozzerella balls, it just kept coming. There was no door policy bullshit, no attitude, and everyone was friendly as hell. Filli Ponte’s is truly an old-school New York style Italian joint. And the MUSIC?!?! Well, let’s just say there were a lot of legendary DJ’s in the house and when you play to a crowd of masters, you gotta come correct.
Too many gotdam balloons, though.
The Wild Bunch… INDIE 184, Raquel, Kimi, and Kike.
Kimi is my attorney, and she is NO joke. If you see her coming for you I suggest you just settle…trust, you do NOT want to go to trial.
Ladies Love Cool Ju… yoooooooooooou betta watch yo’self!
Cool-Ass Carmen. I love this lady. Carm, if you were only single and I was only twenty years younger…
Bag Ladies… they were having some kind of a purse battle.
What? DJ Premier? Free Pizza? WHAT?
When Primo started killing the intro to this song it was on like Donkey Kong in a thong…

Next up; DJ ELI. Then my dude EVIL DEE. All in all… a good ol’ time.
Zulu Jeff had me on the guest list for another B-Day party uptown for MC Slick Rick, but you know my old ass can’t stay out too late.

Come on Baby, Brooklyn Bound.

I leave you with what may well be the first gangsta rapper… Burgess “Penguin” Meredith:

Love was never born to say Goodbye

This article was posted by Keo 3 years, 4 months, 1 Day, 19 hours, 43 minutes ago.

There have been a whole lotta stars on this stage… Major Harris, Russell Thompkins Jr., Randy Cain, Jerry Butler, Ted “Wizard” Mills, Frankie Beverly, Billy Paul, Eddie Levert…but when I say “Philly Soul” one name rises to the top, one name exemplifies Philly’s smooth, cool-ass, ladies-man-but-will-knock-a-nigga-out steez, that name is Steve Powers… oops, sorry, I mean Teddy “Bear” Pendermotherfuckingrass.

THIS dude, more than Marvin, more than Barry White, THIS dude’s voice triggered some kind of a reaction in the female reproductive wiring that caused panties to DROP. In fact, they didn’t just drop, they flew across concert halls and stadiums to pile up on the stage at his feet by the thousands.

Love T.K.O.

Teddy was originally the drummer for The Bluenotes, but when Harold Melvin fucked around and let him sing lead… well, that was pretty much a wrap for old Harold.

Live 79 “Come on and go with me”

After an autombile accident in 1982 Teddy was left wheelchair bound. Some said his voice lost some of it’s power…I dunno, still sounded pretty damn good to me..

This is my shit right here; a 1980 duet with the lovely Stephanie Mills, “Feel the Fire”. Ranks right up there with Rick James and Teena Marie, Marvin and Tammy, and Bobby Womack and Candi Staton… feel me?

Teddy, Teddy, Teddy…Don’t you dare!

1979 Funk “Only You”

This song is one of my favorites, a great example of Teddy’s emotional range, from wistful to downright screamin’…

“Can’t we try”

Bonus Video: “Two Hearts”

Thank you, Teddy.

In music news today, Nas and Damian Marley’s threatened collabo L.P. looks like it might actually drop. Long time coming… I for one will be interested to hear this one.

A release date of March 16th has been confirmed for the much hyped “Roots/Rap” record, and from all reports it will be an absolute beauty. A preview of the album can be seen here

Kisa pi nou fe?

This article was posted by Keo 3 years, 4 months, 3 days, 17 hours, 40 minutes ago.

Those of you who follow my posts know that I generally keep it light and try not to use this blog as a platform for politics or preaching, however today I feel the need to touch on current events. My neighborhood has a huge Haitian population and when I went out this morning for my coffee I could feel the fear, so many people have family and loved ones in Port-au-Prince with no means of contacting them. I was immediately reminded of Sept. 11; me and Reas went painting early that morning and we were doing a top to bottom whole car when we realized that something big was going on. I spotted fighter jets racing towards Manhattan and started trying to call my family, of course all cellphone lines were jammed. Thankfully, it turned out my Daughter was fine but that period of not knowing, of feeling powerless to do anything, is the worst.
This morning I felt the need to do something, anything, however insignificant. If half the people who read 12oz contributed five or ten bucks toward the emergency relief efforts it could make a difference. There are a lot of funds set up but I chose to fuck with Wyclef, say what you want about dudes music (Shit, I wanna do a collabo with Kenny Rogers, Lil Kim, and Earth Wind and Fire!) his efforts on behalf of the people of Haiti are for real. After the hurricane in 2005 his foundation provided scholarships to 3,600 children in Gonaïves, Haiti. The following year they doubled that number, spreading the scholarships throughout the country.
What’s going on today may prove to be far more devastating than Hurricane Jeanne:
“Parliament has collapsed. The tax office has collapsed. Schools have collapsed. Hospitals have collapsed,” President Rene Preval said. “There are a lot of schools that have a lot of dead people in them.”
Wyclef Jean’s official Twitter page is calling for people to help Haiti Earthquake Relief by donating $5.Simply text YELE to501 501.Your phone will automatically be billed $5.

Se kreol nou ye.

NIKEO

This article was posted by Keo 3 years, 4 months, 6 days, 14 hours, 35 minutes ago.

I worked on a bunch of graphics for NIKE SPORTS WEAR apparel I.D. with Grotesk, Allen and the AKA crew a while back. They are finally starting to trickle out and a few are available at 255 Elisabeth St. in Manhattan. There are a bunch more designs which will be coming out soon.
I went in the 255 store to see how it all works and make myself a hooded sweatshirt. Of course my luck, the Brooklyn team graphics were not yet available, but I liked this one…

For this team, the mascot character is by me and the type treatment is Grotesk. I figured since this is some I.D. customization type thing, let me see how far I can flip it. I tried to really push the limits of what they could do, but it didn’t seem to phase them one bit.

You know I had to flip it on some BKLYN shit.

The embroidery is pretty tight and really picks up all the fine line work

Right arm

Left arm

Left wrist. Yeah, I know, I kinda O.D.ed. I dont usually like gear that is branded everywhere, but I wanted to test all the possible applications.
Oh yeah, I still had to add the finishing touch…

a little something on the left side of the hood, real small…

CAN YA RRREAD IT NOW, Wood Peckah?!??

Brooklyn Took It.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at what they were able to pull off. The kids working there are very helpful and were knowledgeable w/all the different processes, from embroidery, to screen printing, to appliqué patches. If you decide to go down to Elisabeth and design something of your own, let me know, I’d love to see what you come up with.
