New York, New York

It looked like the Hall of Fame might not come off this year, politics, thunder storms, politics, the crew being spread out all over the globe, dudes having work and family commitments, politics, MORE thunder storms, bullshit, oh… and politics. Originally we had planned to do some kind of autobots, decepticons joint, but after a long night of partying to the sounds of the J5 (and NO, youngbuck, that DOESN’T stand for “jurassic” 5.) courtesy of the nimble fingers of DJ EVIL DEE, I knew what had to be done. You see, when I was just a youngin’ we had a Saturday morning cartoon we liked to watch that went a little something like this:

The 1971 Motown/Rankin-Bass co-production, animated in London by the Halas-Batchelor (“Yellow Submarine”) team, it was simple yet amazingly psychadelic. Dudes danced with two mice and a snake in their pocket, animated Freudian symbolism? Or, maybe, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
Anyways, I felt it would be a fitting tribute if I could only get it done. Three times we had started out to the wall only to be turned away by weather, politics, and more weather. Once we even got as far as rolling the entire background with seventies style psychadelic stripes of color when the skies opened up with thunder and lightning so hard it set off every car alarm on the block. As we huddled under a small roof overhang, we watched the colors run right off the wall. Gallons of latex literally down the drain. Dudes became discouraged and broke out. The tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost.
Day three and we havent managed to put paint anywhere except running in the gutter, I am trying to call everyone in the crew to no avail. And me with nothing but a dozen half empty scrap cans, two Newport 100’s, and a cardboard metrocard.Plus, I can hear young Michael singing in the distance “is this theee ennnnnnnnd?” Do I give up, Oh Faithful Reader, take a raincheck, call it a wrap til next year ?!!?? Not the Comeback Kid…I’m Can Griffey Jr.! I’m Art Linkletters! I’m the mother fuckin’ Kingston Euclid Overlord… I’m the… wait, what’s this? Here comes Wane E. Wonder and the Dread Basil Rathbone with a bucket of pastel yellow latex and a crate of Belton! Once again it’s on…

You're such an amazing writer......but I've always known that. *love the fact that you had to point out J5 is NOT Jurassic....* Beautiful work. Loved the dedication wall. Although I know I'm about to get sick of the hype surrounding the will, battle, etc.........the media needs to shut up and MJ needs to be honored and remembered for the great legacy he has left in music, pop and soul cultures.
