Shoe from Amsterdam has been down since the 80s. Next month he releases his new book on From Here to Fame Publishing.
and coming soon to the Common Ground Gallery in Berlin, ‘Calligraffiti – The Graphic Works of Niels “SHOE” Meulman. Street-edge meets high-end design as artist Niels Meulman explores the contours of words as images in “Calligraffiti” - his hybrid art form which blends calligraphy and graffiti. He presents a wonderful interplay of contrasts with a series of fast phrases and upbeat witticisms in the form of captivating typographic masterpieces. If in Berlin make sure to check it out and cop the book.

Last night I was able to catch Todd James’ excellent exhibition and run into many old friends. One such guy is old school LA writer and artist Devin Flynn who is an animator now with a sick and twisted sense of humor which I appreciate very much. He hit me with a dvd of some of his shows and I would like to share some that are floating are the net. enjoy…

Nice video in South Africa by Faith47. Graffiti and lost spaces, another beautiful project by Roman Pybus and Inge Beckmann. Epitaph is an exploration of lost spaces entered through sounds and images to reveal the echoes of empty rooms, flakes of paint, swollen curves, fragile lines, stories hidden in the flat colors broken apart by wood and steel. Rowan Pybus, Faith47 and Inge Beckmann worked closely together to produce this short video piece. This is the third in a series of videos that Faith47 and Rowan Pybus have been working on.
This is not your average graffiti video.

At 21 years of age the young and charismatic chairman of Chicago’s Black Panter party was murdered by the Chicago police and the FBI while he was in his bed with his fiance. Its been 40 years since this man and others were killed for their revolutionary ideas. I pray that the day will come when we will all be free of this type of tyranny and oppression.

From my good friend Kaptain Kirk in Japan…
Expansion, Inc. is proud to present an exhibition featuring artists who designed 90’s HIP HOP music albums whether single covers or logos. The paintings are duplicates on canvas of the original artwork from these famous artists and records. We believe that the artists who designed 90ss HIP HOP music album covers or logos should also be recognized by the public and the music industry as their artwork play an important role in the marketing of the music industry. More importantly, it teaches and introduces the younger generation to the history of 90’s HIP HOP and the element behind the artwork industry.

Ket grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. From a young age, he fell in love with Hip Hop culture and the graffiti art movement, During his college days at New York University, he founded STRESS, a publication dedicated to celebrating urban communities, Hip Hop culture and educating youth about their rights. This magazine went on to have international distribution and being translated into Spanish language as well. Through Stress magazine, Ket created a program with Riker’s Island prison to donate magazines to inmates and to take Hip Hop musicians to perform at the prison system in order to reduce violence and connect them with the outside world. He was also one of the founders of Black August, a collective made up of Stress magazine staff and The Malcolm X Grassroots movement, in order to raise money and support for political prisoners and exchange music and ideas with youth in countries with emerging Hip Hop scenes like Cuba. Most recently he was a founder of Complex magazine along with Marc Ecko, and started a publishing imprint, From Here to Fame, to preserve Hip Hop’s rich history and to provide an imprint for marginalized writers and artists. He also has served as a consultant to Ecko Unlimited on both their apparel and video game businesses, MTV, Lugz, Vibe magazine, PepsiCo, Timberland, Azzure Denim, and many other brands.
