Mixed Martial arts has come a really long way and is constantly evolving. John Hyams’s 2002 documentary follows American wrestler Mark Kerr through his training and ultimate rise to stardom in PRIDE fighting. Really brutal at times, but very interesting if you enjoy fight sports. Mark struggles with drug use, the pressures of fame, and the desire to win.
The opening sequence in the film displays footage from early “vale tudo” (anything goes) fights in Brasil, the head butts are brutal. Not for the faint of heart.
