Not one Republican vote! Not one! And that is the Republican Party’s response to the American public who, as every poll indicates, are begging for less partisanship and more “just get the job done.”
The Obama stimulus package passed in the House along strict party lines. So there it is America, we now know who to thank or blame. That being the case the Republicans just painted themselves into an obstructionist corner. They are betting on and praying for national failure. Like Rush Limbaugh, they are hoping the economic recovery fails. They have bet against our future, even against a president who reached out in an unprecedented way to them. Their answer to President Obama’s extended hand? A clenched fist! Head in the sand! The “we won’t play!” of perennial brats.
The Republican Party just doesn’t get it. We are in trouble! And our country’s fate and the success or failure of the Obama presidency is now one and the same.
The Republicans could have done a great thing for their party and the country: sent a message to the world—we stand together! Imagine the impact on tomorrow’s stock market, and our enemy’s view of America and our standing in the world if instead of a partisan Republican “NO” vote the backing of the recovery plan had been unanimous approval!
If the Republicans weren’t stuck in a white man’s reactionary country club past—and I speak here as white former life long Republican—this momentous vote could have changed American history. It would have changed it not just on this issue but because of the symbolism. It would have told all Americans—we are at war with our weaknesses, we will prevail, take heart help is on the way.
The Republicans might have then shared the credit, even won a few elections in the future. Now their fate is sealed. Obama will succeed. America won’t forget who to thank.
The Republicans have made themselves the enemy of our recovery. They would rater take us all down than let our president have his day. While President Obama is blessed with a large vision, the Republicans are mired in a petty past, a small “victory” in unanimous obstruction passing for a moral “victory.”
With this NO vote, the Republican Party sends us this message: we are a group of bad losers, don’t entrust us with your future! And: We are betting against you America!
We Americans are wounded. President Obama has arrived with his ambulance as he promised he would. All the Republicans could think of doing was to try and let the air out of the tires. Shame!

LEE Quinones has launched his official website http://www.leequinones.com where visitors can get the latest info on the infamous artist. For those unschooled on subway art history LEE was one of the founding members of The Fabulous Five, one of the most revered painting crews of the 1970s. His work both in scale and content set the bar high for all aspiring writers during the subway graffiti era. He went on to become a full on painter during the 80’s and for years has exhibited globally. LEE was my first influence and was the catalyst for me personally getting into the graffiti culture, I imagine there are countless similar stories throughout the world.

All that Glitters is Gold
A group exhibition curated by Melissa McCaig Welles and Cope2
February 6- March 2, 2009
Opening Reception: Saturday, February 7th, 7-10pm
McCaig Welles Gallery is pleased to announce All that Glitters is Gold, a group exhibition presented by Melissa McCaig Welles and guest curator Cope2.
The exhibition invites never-before-exhibited artists along with represented artists with upcoming solo shows at the gallery to interpret the expansive theme of the show in a restrained 18x24 art piece.
Gallery owner Melissa McCaig Welles, intrigued by the somber economic and political climate, was interested in the potential for varying responses and overlapping interpretations to the All that Glitters is Gold title. “The title, for me personally, directly corresponds with the current economic climate and the disaster on Wall Street. The fact that we all believed the hype and gave our money away to untrustworthy people, bought more homes than we could afford and basically believed in all that glittered ” states McCaig Welles. The show title invites artists to focus on what blinds human nature and perhaps, and hopefully, what redeems it.
Exhibiting Artists: CRIME 79, Can2, Carlos Mare139 Rodriguez, Chris Smith aka Subtexture, Cope2, Damion Silver, EWOK5MH, Greg Haberny, Indie184, Jen Props, Lance Turnbow, LogikOne, Lucas Irwin aka FILTH, Molly Crabapple, Mona Superhero, Queen Andrea, R Nicholas Kuszyk, Robert H. Carlos Mare 139 Rodriguez is an internationally acclaimed artist/sculptor and pioneer in the art and culture of Hip Hop. Leading his generation into a new world of possibility with style writing sculpture, he pioneered a vision that had, before him, no reference outside of the painted subways of the time. Throughout his career as a sculpter, Mare 139 has consistently brought innovation to the genre’s aesthetic and vocabulary. Mare 139 earned the prestigeous 2006 Webby Award for his launch of the Hip Hop documentary Style Wars website. Style Wars has also garnered the COMMARTS/Communication Arts Award, Horizon Interactive Award, as well as SXSW/South by Southwest Interactive. Not only an award winner but an award designer, Mare 139 designed and created the award for the annual BET/Black Entertainment Award show, which is given annually to entertainers, athletes and actors. Recipients include Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jay Z, Prince Snoop Dog, Beyonce, Kobe Bryant, Usher, Serena Williams and many others. He also designed a G-Unit Award expressly for 50Cent given to him by fashion designer Marc Ecko. Other award projects include the 2005 and 2007 Red Bull Beat Battle Award and more recent the SPY Award for the 30th Anniversary of the Rock Steady Crew. In 2006-07 Mare 139 worked closely with Director/Actor Robert DeNiro on the film The Good Shepherd as a documenter of ‘the making of the movie’ and as member of Mr. DeNiro’s editing team. His writing has been published in Martha Coopers brilliant photo book Street Play that documents the imaginative ‘play’ of children in the streets of NYC in the late 1970’s. His writings capture the creative play and dangers of his youth in the South Bronx.
