Art History- David Smith Sprays 1958-1964
Well before I started my ‘OverSprays’ American Sculptor David Smith was using spray paint as a tool for his art. He would not only experiment with paper stencils he would spray over tools, gears, nuts, bolts anything that would support his creative compositions. I learned of his sculptures well after I started sculpting and quickly became a fan and student of his work. He too was also heavily influenced by the Constructivist and the Avante Guarde movement. He would have loved graffiti and been influenced by it, one can clearly see parallels in his early work. Images referenced from- http://www.davidsmithestate.org/index.html
