Today I started working on my show here at Brighton University. I got 7 pieces made today and the WuStyleWriter sculpture was brought inside and placed at the entrance of the gallery. I am definitely in StyleWriter mode, as if I am channeling the legends, Kel, Noc, Min, Cliff, FDT56, Riff170 and all the Style Masters. I brought the ruckus, fuck it. TVS, TDS, TFP, TMT, CIA, OTB, BYB...I dedicate this show to all the OG Pioneers, those who hit layups!!!
There is alot to be said so far but mostly what comes next week is gonna be next level! Im just scratching the surface right now, sorting out sculpture and its relationship to and on architecture, this show speaks to potential structures down the line. One thing I can say is that along with the others artists showing along me, West in Paris, OS Gemeos in NYC, Haze in Hong Kong...I feel a swell on the horizon. I think we are on the cusp of major changes in our visual culture and we are at the forefront of it.
I will be giving a lecture soon on the current state of graffiti/streetart culture based on the Red Bull Outsides project and how this show ties into whats happening and to come.
Big up to Kala Phool for organizing Rising Styles and Brighton University for supporting progressive thinking and art in Hip Hop Culture. And to Red Bull for supporting the creation and the travels of the WU StyleWriter.
