Aiko Nakagawa’s spectacular one-woman show opened last night at the Joshua Liner Gallery at
548 28th Street in Chelsea. She filled two big rooms and several smaller ones with all new work
made in a non-stop marathon of painting and stenciling over the past couple of months. The pieces
were pure Aiko—exploring themes of life and love painted on canvas and stenciled on some very
cool window panes with weathered sashes. The centerpiece of the show was an impressive
installation of several hundred house paint and spray cans, in homage to her street art roots.
Afterwards everyone danced the night away at an old skool party in the Village. Mirrored disco balls
flashed from the ceiling as guests beamed their mini-lasers around the floor.
