I went to Soho yesterday afternoon to meet a friend in the basement of 112 Greene Street.
This turned out to be an historic artists’ space formed in 1970 called 112 Workshop. It’s
walls are now being painted by an impressive selection of graf and street artists. The
basement will be used for some kind of event space but I never found out exactly for what
because I got completely distracted by Ellis G. who volunteered to demonstrate “fire tagging”.
The idea is to paint a tag and light it quickly before it dries. In a windowless basement, a fire
extinguisher might come in handy—not that we had one. I decided to leave before we burned the
building down. My friend never showed up—but hey—always fun to learn something new.
