Preview: Bill Butterworth “The Forty Deuce” Book Release and Exhibition at Powerhouse

Times Square in the 80s was home to peep shows, sex shops, hustlers and prostitutes with 42nd Street as the capital of this life of sin. While today, the area is gleaming with flashing advertisements and gawking tourists, it’s hard to believe how unpolished the area once was.

In The Forty-Deuce: The Times Square Photographs of Bill Butterworth, 1983-1984 viewers are transported back in time to the grit and glamour that filled the streets in this collection. The images reveal the ins and outs of an old-school New York highlighting everything from the scenery to the unique people including pimps, trannies and b-boys.

The free exhibition and launch party for the book begins tomorrow and is open to the public. Never before seen images from the book will be on display at the powerHouse Arena through July 1.
