RIP KASE 2

Kase 2 (Case 2) passed away yesterdaymorning at Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx. The Fantastic Partners stalwart—who famously called himself “a style king” in 1983’s Style Wars—was unconscious and on life support in the days leading up to his death.

Kase 2 was one of the most remarkable writers this culture has ever produced: an originator of the “camouflage” sketching technique which made pieces illegible to outsiders, founder of the “computer rock” style which influenced so many thousands of pieces thereafter, never hindered by having only one arm to paint with, and a standout character in the world’s most famous graffiti documentary. As graffiti’s pioneers age, and the community braces itself for more and more shocks like this one, it still doesn’t take away from the tragedy. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family. RIP KASE 2.
