Tony DiSpigna is one of my favorite typographers, till today i haven’t see anybody with such good hand for lettering, yeah there is tons of people doing great shit with type, no doubt about it but just to think that Mr. DiSpigna was doing this almost 30 years ago with no illustrator is something else…He worked with Lubalin,Ernie Smith and Alan Peckolick in the Design firm Lubalin & Associates in NY in the late 70’s.
“He takes our scribbles and makes something of them” Herb Lubalin on Tony DiSpigna -Graphis Magazine 1980/81

For the past few years a lot of “STREET CULTURE” brands have been trying to appropriate the aesthetic of classic luxury brands like Hermes, LV, Gucci, etc, to the point where became another big trend, even the “URBAN BRANDS” where doing the same…last night while i was looking trough a magazine i came up to this Cavalli AD and for a second thought was another “COLLABO” but no it was not….
funny how this kind of stuff reads so different now, a lot cheaper and completely out of context…maybe its the times we are living or maybe another trend that doesn’t make any sense.
