Good article on a crew of Queens kids that strap 5,000 watt sound systems to their bmx bikes. “It’s the next best thing to having a system in a car. But it’s better because you don’t even have to roll down the windows.” Photo by Tyler Hicks/The New York Times.

Pai was, along with Yohei, Rip and Makoto, one of the friends in Japan that really looked out and took care of everybody. She was doing a million things at once for two weeks straight and still managed to snap some beautiful photos. Check out the rest here.

Nish said he found a nice little spot to warm up and skate flat right by the hotel. That morning when we got to the spot, we realized we had actually shrunk from eating only noodles for two weeks straight.

Takashi was rad. He really looked out for us when we were in Kyoto. Wether it was drawing us maps, helping translate or getting us on the right train, a lot of people went out of their way to help us out in Japan. Thank you.

On my last morning in Tokyo, I came out to see this on my bike: a bright-red alert that I have my bike parked in the wrong place. Luke and Todd got one too. Everything seems to have its place in Japan. And it looks like our bikes were in the wrong place.

Nish took some amazing photos on our last-minute trip to Japan. Everytime I turned around, he had his camera out getting a shot. From Tokyo, to Osaka, to Kyoto all on our bikes and boards, the trip was a one of the best I’ve been on and Nish managed to captured it all beautifully. Here is his web story and flickr set.

Met this kid in Tokyo. He was 17 years old, so I nick named him Young Buck. He was at W-Base everyday on his bike ready to ride. Super fast and busting wheelies down the street whenever we rode. You could tell he was just psyched and full of energy. There was a race later this evening and he didn’t win. No big deal, but he was so bummed. I guess when you are that young, stuff like means a lot. Check the hat and the shirt. The kid probably only knows Brooklyn through Biggie tapes and chances are he never read The Autobiography of Malcolm X, but he’s was repping NYC like he was born and raised in Bed-Stuy. Most of the young Japanese skaters and riders were so fascinated by New York City in some way, even though they’ve never been there.

5Boro NYC Manhattan Bridge Board.
I’ve never had a good sense of what a ‘good selling’ board graphic looks like, I usually just try to make something that I’d buy, and sometimes what I’d buy isn’t always what the kids want. Glad it worked out this time. Nar-Dog and Steve at 5Boro are happy with this graphic I did for them. Turns out its selling well. I set one up and repped The 5 on my trip to Japan. Me and Nish, and Benny had a couple of good sessions out there.
