A short lived NYC-inspired company that was run through DLX in the mid-90’s, Metropolitan. Look at the team lineup. Beautiful photography by Ari Marcopoulos that really communicated a specific mood, place and time.

@ yea: Definite props to Dimitry for doin’ all the big things. Props to all the skaters from Sheepshead and all the cats who skated the steps of St. Marks Church. And props to Jane Lee - she was so hawt.

other old ads/skate mag stuff that were great that stick in my head:
frank natiello in an ezekiel ad
the short-lived illuminati ads
maurice key world industries ad “made in brooklyn” crooked grind on a bike post
capitol/nicotine ads
dimitry elyaskavich photos
the “a ny minute” columns by ted newsome in TWS
when TREEFORT sponsored supa and ponte
CREAM skateboards
*ari was the best. those metropolitan ads are amazing! i don’t think that many people “got” them though. they were probably indifferent about things like “aesthetic” and shit. i wasn’t the greatest at skateboarding, but in retrospect i sure was hungry for anything remotely skateboarding from graphics, spots, cities, etc, especially if it was east coast-related. i’m proud to say that it made a profound impact on my life and tastes in general.
anyhow, thanks for this blast from the past.
