Just released for the iPad Henry Chalfant presents the Big Subway Archive a serial collection of some the greatest trains painted during the 1970s and 1980s. The whole collection is 800 photos deep and features never before drawings, interviews and whole cars. Released in parts over time over the next year the archive is more than collectors item its an art lesson and historical trove. http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/henry-chalfants-big-subway/id531594319?mt=11&ls=1 Thank you HC A fantastic and historical archive on the prodigious and prolific subway graffiti art movement which evolved into a full blown modern art collective around the world. Herein is a collection a huge sampling of its DNA of some of its most influential Style Masters who learned the dark arts from generations past. Henry Chalfant has had the privilege to witness and document the movement through photography and personal relationships with the writers themselves affording us a window not just into the art but to the thoughts about the creative process, the obstacles and dangers. Graffiti subway art and the street art that it was gave birth to the modern democracy of art making, predating Haring, Basquiat, Fairey and Banksy, these photos will show how unique and revolutionary the movement was and was becoming before the ‘great buff’ and the ‘style wars’. A must have for enthusiast, educators and art historians. -Carlos Mare {image-1} {image-2} {image-3}
