5Pointz To Be Demolished

By - Sunday, October 13th, 2013

It has been confirmed that the 5Pointz Aerosol Art Center, Inc. in Long Island City, long considered a legendary relic of hip hop culture, is slated to be torn down by the end of 2013 to make space for 1,000 high-rise luxury condo units. While G&M Realty has agreed to curate some of the walls and panels in the facility, the development is testament to the struggle between industrialization and the preservation of a bygone era of graffiti in New York. This is devastating news to fans of artists such as Tracy 168, Cope2, Stay High 149, and TATS CRU who have used the iconic 200,000-square-foot facility to display their work since 1993.
