JET SET (preview) from ABOVE on Vimeo.
From this preview of Above’s upcoming solo show at the Metro Gallery in Melbourne, we can see that there will be some very relatable terrestrial works. Collages of geographical pop iconography seem to be the running theme in the pieces, almost a reinterpretation of flags. The connection between what is generally appreciated and respected in each city, and how out of towners view our own cities, can be found in the pieces, like the New York arrow: Jay Z rocking a yankees cap and some wrinkled bills.
Above is the perfect artist to exhibit the pop culture of locations around the world, this was proven in his book Above: Passport, where he painted the streets in over 90 cities in 60 countries all over the world.
Above’s show opens July 4th, 2012 at Metro Gallery in Melbourne, Australia.
For more information on the show and Above see Metro Gallery’s website.
