Action Bronson, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire Rock Southpaw’s Final Days
It’s bittersweet. Southpaw, the Park Slope venue that’s played host to so many great hip hop acts in the past 10 years, is closing up shop by month’s end. But Action, eXquire, and company gave fans a show to remember last night. Hosted by The Company Man with DJ Meka on the turntables, Kyle Rapps and Soul Khan opened up.
Backstage, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire was warming up with friends. Draped in Giants gear, he came on with his entourage delivering that grimy, gutter rap. You already knew eX was going to bring out the homie Maffew Ragazino. Finishing his set topless, eXquire performed “The Last Huzzah” with Despot, Das Racist, and El P. Shout out to Vic and Gouchos for holding down 12oz for the show! Peep eXquire crowdsurfing!
Taking the customary pre-show toke, Action came onstage giving a fan a signed 1990 Sports Digest, with the Bronsolini himself on the cover. Action dropped hits off Dr. Lecter, later sharing the mic with surprise guests Meyhem Lauren, Smoke Dza and Cormega. The energy from the crowd was crazy as Cormega ripped through bars acappella. Action kept the crowd entertained throughout the show; always the comedian, he rapped over Phil Collins and capped the night off with, “Friends, don’t drink and drive. Drug and drive.”
