Art Opening: Will of the Way at Fuse Gallery Tonight

By - Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Tonight check out the opening of “Will of the Way” at Fuse Gallery curated by Tony Cox featuring the work of Mat O’Brien and Josh Sachs. Fuse Gallery occupies a unique niche in the New York art world. It is located in the back of Lit, one of the quintessential dive bars in the city. The location, and it’s owner Erik Foss, have attracted artists looking to show in an alternative space outside of the glossy mall that is Chelsea. San Francisco-based painter Mat O’Brien transforms portraiture by layering images of friends, found phrases, everyday conversations, comic strips, and other pictures from pop culture. Typically in a monochromatic palette O’Brien is interested in intertwining images from the collective conscious with those that are personal. Josh Sachs, who is based in Brooklyn, creates collages incorporating symbolism and constructing abstract mystical narratives. “Will of the Way,” curated by Tony Cox runs September 28 – October 26, 2011, at Fuse Gallery, 93 2nd Ave between 5th & 6th St. The opening reception is tonight, September 28th, from 7-10 pm.
