Rare Pictures of Banksy In Action from 2001 Published in New Book

By - Monday, September 24th, 2012

Earlier this week, photos showing Banksy painting a mural in Mexico were published in a book “Freedom Through Football: The Story Of The Easton Cowboys & Cowgirls,” by Will Simpson and Malcolm McMahon. The pictures, taken back in a 2001 show the elusive artist just a few years before his rise to fame when he was goal keeper for the Bristol-based football (soccer) club Easton Cowboys and Cowgirls. The team took a tour in Mexico, playing against former Zapatista freedom fighters, and the murals he did were to pay tribute to their struggle for freedom. Censored through pixels, the pictures are the first confirmed images of the artist, and offer an interesting view of the artist at work, using brushes rather than the stencils that he is known for, although the imagery is similar.
