Bates “Style in Progress”
Graffiti legend and long time friend of 12oz Bates is back with a new show, and we couldn’t be more stoked to check it out.
Bates, who has been writing graffiti since the early 1980s, has developed into one of the most dynamic names in the game, not only in his native Copenhagen, but all over the world. As an artist Bates has been featured in countless shows – in the video above, he talks about selling his first painting in 1987 – but what really sets him apart is his dedication to staying up. Thirty years after pioneering the hip-hop and graffiti scene in Copenhagen, the dude is still crushing it. It has gotten to the point that a Bates piece can be spotted by style alone, with the B-A-T-E-S letterforms simply there to reaffirm the fact.
With this show, titled “Style in Progress”, Bates promises something new. And while we at 12oz love what this guy does already, we can’t wait to see what he’s got in store as he makes his way deeper into the mainstream art world. He obviously has the talent, and more than deserves the recognition (and money!) that comes with it. Check out the video above to hear Bates describe the show and his work in his own words, and make sure to show him some love.
