Big Brother Is Watching

{image-1} While London may hold the title of most camera’d up city in the world, NYC is definitely following in the footsteps of its cousin across the pond. Since 9/11, the number of security cameras in NYC has skyrocketed astronomically and that number continues to increase on the daily. Not only has the Department of Homeland Security just installed some brand new cameras around federal plaza, but after a recent beat down of a Bronx MTA bus driver, the MTA is looking to outfit 341 buses with new security cameras. It doesn’t stop there, within a month the MTA will decide whether to camera up 1,100 more buses at a cost of 18,000 each. After an expose revealed that about half of MTA security cameras in the subway don’t work, only time will tell how affective this strategy would be to deter crime. Today’s generation of writers undoubtedly face more obstacles just to get over but remember big brother isn’t watching all the time.
