Blu Off The Wall… Literally

By - Friday, December 10th, 2010

{image-1} What goes up, must come down, and now Blu knows this better than anyone. Under the direction of Jeffrey Deitch, LA museum MoCA was the chosen venue for the 2011 Art in the Streets retrospective, which showcases 100+ artists’ installations and murals; Blu’s mural was sure to be a highlight of the exhibit. But the paint had barely dried when less than 24 hours later, MoCA buffed the entire piece, which boasted an entire wall of dollar-wrapped coffins. Could it be that the antiwar imagery was too provocative? After all, the wall did face a Veterans Administration building… MoCA is staying mum on the issue, giving no statement or explanation about the quick cover-up. We mourn the loss. Via GOOD.
