Carhartt WIP Store Opens in New York
Last night Carhartt Work In Progress opened their first store in New York to much fanfare. Carhartt began manufacturing worker’s garments in 1889 in the city of Detroit. In 1994 Carhartt’s classic American workwear began being distributed throughout Europe by Work In Progress distribution and quickly became popular with European graffiti writers, and MCs who recognized Carhartt’s straightforward and rugged clothing as an authentic expression of their style. The first product range designed exclusively for Europe followed in 1997. The original workwear cuts were re-interpreted to accommodate the needs, styles, and trends of the urban customer.
Carhartt Work In Progress is one of the most popular streetwear brands in Europe and has previously worked with 12ozProphet bloggers Klor and Scien of the 123 Klan and collaborated with Montana Paint on a custom Carhartt x Montana spray can. With the new addition of the Carhatt WIP store to the streets of SoHo we look forward to dope collaborations and events that’ll change the way American youth culture thinks of Carhartt.
