Catch a Ride on Vintage NYC Subway Trains

Every once and a while, the MTA manages to get something right. I’m referring specifically to the “Nostalgia Shoppers’ Special Train” event where straphangers get a chance to ride vintage NYC subway cars. These classic R1/9 cars are refurbished to their original 1930’s-1970’s condition every year for this event. The MTA runs the cars during the holiday season along the M line from Queens Plaza to the 2nd Ave station in Manhattan. Customers can ride the cars free of charge (except normal subway fare) weekdays during the schedule below.
I know we’re all thinking the same thing… I would love a chance to paint one of these guys! If anyone in the NYC area gets a chance to snap some pictures of these cars please post them in a comment below! In the meantime, enjoy these pictures of the trains from the Business Insider.
Get all the info at the MTA website.
