According to a source at Gothamist, it looks like the legendary club might be reopening in another Manhattan location. After CBGB’s official closing in 2006, we got to witness the bastardization of the spirit of the club. With a Las Vegas spin off that never opened, a John Varvatos store for tourists in the historic landmark, and the CBGB’s logo being smeared on t-shirts everywhere. I’m weary to see the what efforts will be put forth to reopen the club. It would be upsetting to see a trendy nightclub opening with the CBGB moniker attached to it. Only time will tell.
Regardless of what direction they decide on taking, the entire original club is stowed away in storage. The original bar is stashed away in a trailer in Connecticut, the awning is located at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the rest of the space is in a dingy 3,000 square foot storage space in Williamsburg.
