From the moment Hot 97’s K. Foxx brought out the Chi-Town rapper, the crowd was all cheers as Common took the stage yesterday night at the Highline. Performing to a sold out crowd, Common dropped gems off his previous 8 albums, including “Go”, “Be”, and “I Want You”. After “The Light”, he showed us why he’s still one of the best emcees around, freestyling for almost 5 minutes with the track’s instrumental on loop. Common went on, tapping into his b-boy roots and did a little poppin’ before “Universal Mind Control”.
The highlight of the night was during “Ghetto Dreams”, the first song recorded for his new album, when Nas jumped on stage fully decked in a navy Adidas tracksuit. The crowd went a little apeshit, including myself. “The Dreamer / The Believer” is out today, featuring Nas and John Legend, with an original poem by Maya Angelou. Get your copy now on iTunes.
