Duck Down’s Sean Price and Smif-n-Wessun Rock Highline Ballroom

By - Friday, January 20th, 2012

This past Wednesday, Duck Down headlined a Boot Camp Clik banger at the Highline. DJ Herbert Holler was on the wheels as Master of Ceremonies Dallas Penn brought out Brownsville emcee Maffew Ragazino to start things off. Donning an all black Nike sweatsuit, Ragazino bumped tracks off his debut LP, “Rhyme Pays”, before surprise guest Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire came through. Phony Ppl was up next; Frontman DyMe-A-DuZiN and crew dropped joints from just-released “Phonyland”. Having caught Ragazino, eXquire, and Phony Ppl opening for a handful of recent shows, it’s good to see rap’s freshmen making moves. Smif-n-Wessun hit the stage with their Duck Down fam (including their mascot!) to “Bucktown”, with Tek spitting on the shoulders of a bodyguard. Hood rich! General Steele, also the comedian, boasts of rocking a pair of early-release Timberlands before taking them off and performing bootless. Showing love, eXquire also made a cameo during Smif-n-Wessun’s set. Sean Price ripped through tracks off “Monkey Barz”, “Jesus Price Superstar”, and other Boot Camp collab albums, including “Chewbacca”, “Snow II”, “Everything is Heltah Skeltah”, and “Boom Bye Yeah”. You already knew Rock was going to make an appearance! Look out for Sean P’s third solo album, “Mic Tyson”, due out Summer 2012. Text & Photo: Steven Lau
