First US auction for Banksy as ‘Flower Girl’ goes under the hammer
The image, which was erected on the wall of an L.A. gas station in 2008, juxtaposes satire and sadness, as a young flower girl is depicted approaching the towering plant whose head is a surveillance camera. Adding an extra edge, the camera dons a rats tail – a known calling card for the British Vandal.
Earlier this year, Banksy’s poignant Slave Labour – depicting a child-worker manufacturing British flags in complete desolation – was pulled from a Miami auction after a mass protest in England erupted. The piece remained on its original wall in the UK before being bought in a private auction for a staggering $1.1 million.
