Frank151 "Chapter 53: Diamond Life" Panel/Release at Barnes & Noble
Our friends over at Frank151 have just released the newest chapter in their beautifully designed mini-book/magazine series. Chapter #53: “Diamond Life” was curated entirely by Nick Tershay, founder of Diamond Supply Co. and skateboarder extraordinaire. After being featured in Frank151’s Chapter #51: “Leaders” last Spring, it became apparent that a lasting bond was formed between Frank151 & Diamond Supply, the results of which are evidenced in each page of this carefully crafted volume. With their recent transition from a free distribution platform to distribution by retailers around the country (with a sticker price of $10 USD) the team at Frank151 are clearly committed to ensuring that the reader is given adequate bang for their bucks.
Beginning with the cover; designed to emulate the look & feel of skateboard grip tape, while still paying homage to this chapter’s curator with the inclusion of a miniature replica of the Diamond Supply logo, every aspect of this chapter has been considered in great detail. Frank151 has built a reputation for striking interviews and developed an ability to deliver on this promise with startling consistency. Rather than approach the art of the interview from a traditional standpoint, Frank151’s methodology involves pairing the interviewer with an interviewee intimately familiar to them or their career (Rob Dyrdek by Jeron Wilson, Rick Ross by Frank151-founder Stephen Malbon); or, covering a notable aspect of the subject’s personality (Curren$y on his collection of vintage cars, BunB on his favorite food). Lastly, each interview is coupled with photos from the brilliantly talented staff photographers (Mr. Flawless shot by 13th Witness, Cassie by Estevan Oriol & Eli Reed by Ricky Powell). This chapter is a clear statement of intent to further extend their long-standing tradition of producing publications and content of the highest caliber.
The panel at the Barnes & Noble Union Square location in Manhattan, NYC was hosted by longtime New York skater, and friend of Diamond Supply, Alex Corporan. Also included were co-owner Jeron Wilson, Diamond-sponsored skater Eli Reed, New Orleans rapper Curren$y, and of course, Nick Tershay himself. Topics of conversation included the history/origins of Diamond Supply, their continued participation and affiliation with skate culture, classic car collecting and personal reflections on the meaning/significance of Diamond Supply. The panel concluded with an important announcement from founder Nick Tershay, the forthcoming grand opening of the first-ever Diamond Supply Co. retail shop here in New York City.
All in all, Chapter 53: “Diamond Life” is indubitably a must-own for any skate/Diamond Supply Co. fan. In addition to the features mentioned above, legends of skateboarding Christian Hosoi, Eric Koston, Torey Pudwill and Kareem Campbell are interviewed, along with an illuminating conversation with Bay Area pioneers about the history and importance of Embarcadero.
