Graffiti in Colt Gun Mill, Paterson NJ
Paterson, New Jersey was once a thriving industrial city. One of its biggest, working factories was the Samuel Colt Gun Mill. It supplied weapons to the Union Army during the Civil War. And after the Civil war, these weapons were used to wipeout Plains Indians. Today the factory is a burnt out shell, occupied by the lost dreams of dope fiends. In this heart of darkness a certain type of artist thrives.
Over the last six weeks, 12oz had the opportunity to accompany BENK for a few daytime paint sessions. BENK, representing the GT Krew and LostDreamz crew, is at home in the squalor and filth of the industrial decay. However, he’s no loner. He’s done recent collaborations with SERK GTK, SEOZ MHS, MAZE ODK, and TORN GTK LostDreamz.
This documentation focuses on the newer work in the mill. It is a huge space, with some gems hidden amongst the needles and rusted beams. That being said, there are a few pictures of older work, because around here, we respect the architects.
