Hipsters for a Greener Planet at the New New York DIY Green Block Party

By - Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

The NEW New York’s Green Block Party closed down a section of North 11th Street in Williamsburg on Saturday, in order to highlight sustainable businesses and ideas. The party included all types of, well, Williamsburg-y things like composting, living furniture, bike donations, single source coffee—and also this outhouse built for those who need relief by river, titled the “Poop ‘n’ Paddle”. (NPR has an aaaawesome video showing how it works here.) The rain held back for the majority of the day, but did result in the cancellation of the after party. Word is they’re working on rescheduling, which would be a good opportunity to check this awesome new documentary about a “farm” in the bed of a pickup truck. Text and Photo: Caylee
