Fame Festival 2011: Southern Italian Town Transformed into Street Art Destination

By - Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

This weekend was the opening reception for the Fame Festival, a gathering of some of the biggest and best street artists from around the world converging in the small town of Grottagile,Puglia in Southern Italy. The festival organized by Angelo Milano is in it’s fourth year. The line-up for 2011 includes Blu, Swoon, Momo, Vhils, and Brad Downey to name a few. Participating artists are practically given a key to the city to do what they do best, transform the streets into their gallery. The Fame Festival has two components. The first is the public art which envelopes the city, now with 75 sites in total and increasing each year. The second is a gallery exhibition featuring the artists’ work and print collaborations with Studiocromie, the printshop owned and operated by Mr. Milano. Not only has he given these artists full range of expressing themselves with no boundaries but he has also put Grottagile on the map. The Fame Festival has transformed a small town in Southern Italy into a destination for street art enthusiasts all over the world. Text: Raff
