Jel Martinez: Removal Art Opening

By - Monday, April 4th, 2011

Long time 12oz friend Jel Martinez is having a solo art show kicking off on April 7th at 7pm and running through until May 21. Jel Martinez is a Miami native and veteran of Miami’s graffiti scene, who helped pay his dues as part of the Inkheads Crew throughout the 1990s. Inkheads, in turn was presided over by Ease, more commonly known these days as Jose Parla. For the graffiti aficionados, you might be able to detect hints of that lineage in Jel’s style writing. With his gallery work, Jel recreates his street pieces beginning with the basic writing then adds layers upon layers of ‘buff’ in an attempt to recreate the visual aesthetics of graffiti removal, creating an entirely new visual dialogue. If you happen to be anywhere near Miami, be sure to swing through the Wynwood Arts District for the show. Butter 2301 NW 2nd Avenue Miami, FL 33127 Map
