Preview: Katre at Celal Gallery, Paris

This article was posted by sheacote 1 year, 1 month, 5 days, 23 hours, 11 minutes ago.

Katre started putting up his name in abandoned lots and factories when he was a kid. Having a growing infatuation with the burnt out locations that most graffiti writers have experienced, he got into photographing them and exploring their full potential. He weaves his letters, bursting with color, throughout the cold composition of the stark and decaying auditoriums he captured. The wasteland backgrounds interlaced with the flowing conceptual letters Katre paints introduce what some of us had yet to express, that exploring these abandoned landmarks hold strong historic and cultural ties within the graffiti community. Katre uses common mixed media techniques with a unique approach, using digital prints, screen printing, and painting on metal or canvas. Each of Katre’s works feature peeling letters, unstructured graphs, toying with perspective, uncommon utensils and raw images. The exhibition is at Celal Gallery from April 26th to May 19th in Paris.
