KAWS "Passes Through" Philadelphia's 30th Street Station

By - Friday, May 3rd, 2013

{image-1} Brian Donnelly, better known as KAWS, has long been a prolific icon in the realm of fine art and a designer of collectible vinyl toys. Amtrak will be displaying his 16-foot fiberglass and metal sculpture Companion at Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station until May 14th. The exhibit “Passing Through” features the same grayscale Mickey Mouse-inspired figure that received a float at the 2012 Macy’s Day Parade. Coming from a graffiti background, the artist has gone on to apply his distinctive imagery to pop culture series from Spongebob and the Simpsons to Astroboy and Peanuts. He is known for popular collaborations with streetwear brands Bape, Nike and Comme des Garçons. The Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts will be showcasing more KAWS work in October.
