Throwback Thursday: KRS-One “It’s Gettin’ Hectic” 1993 Unreleased Track

This recently-unearthed, DJ Premier-produced gem is honest, insightful and in many ways prophetic, so it’s a real shame it ended up on the cutting room floor of KRS-One’s 1993 Return of the Boom Bap LP. On “It’s Gettin’ Hectic”, the Blast Master busts warning shots on a wide range of socio-political issues of the time, including racism, exploitation, censorship, eurocentrism and globalization.

One is left to wonder what impact this track could have had on the young minds of the time, but the mere idea of it seems to have generated enough pressure from the powers that be, to make Jive Records pull the plug on it. Luckily for us, DJ JS-1 has released it on his latest mixtape.

“It’s Gettin’ Hectic” is a real treat for fans of “True-School” hip hop… Enjoy!
