On the front page of 12ozProphet a Lacoste ad flashed the bright, graphic, recognizable work of street artist Aakash Nihalani. Wondering what that was about I clicked and was brought to the Lacose L!VE website where the brand has taken inspiration from Nihalani’s aesthetic throughout.
The Lacoste L!VE Spring/Summer 2012 campaign, shot by Mark “The Cobrasnake” Hunter, incorporates Nihalani’s work and even features him as one of the models. Lacoste also launched an “Unconventional Talents” section on their website where this short biographical video on the artist Aakash Nihalani was posted. More often than not brand collaborations with artists come off as a stretch, feel contrived, and don’t do the artist or the brand much justice. This collaboration, on the other hand, successfully integrates Nihalani’s vision in an organic way that compliments the collection and brand while giving credit to the artist.
