Lush’s “Shitty Drawings” Vandalized at Klughaus Gallery

Never one to shy away from controversy, Australian graffiti provocateur Lush ironically finds himself the victim of vandalism at his recent Shitty Drawings in New York City solo show opening at Klughaus Gallery Saturday night. Notorious for the tactic of ‘shock and awe’ in well, ALL of his work, one might question if the vandalism was an organized stunt. Taking the incident in stride Lush responded, “Haters gonna hate… Three shows in a row of stolen and destroyed work on each of the opening nights. Im flattered, I’m sure the next one someone will blow it up with a pipebomb or something.”
The owners of Klughaus Gallery told The Gothamist, “I have to laugh off the whole situation although it was a bit disrespectful to the gallery. I hear that only a couple of pieces were damaged the rest only needed new frames. We definitely don’t want to encourage this kind of behavior in the future. This was definitely not planned by us and we have confirmed with the artist LUSH that he did not plan this as well. In any case, a police report will be made this week and we’ll let the 5th precinct take over from there.”

There was literally 6 people at this show. That’s not news worthy. If someone rips a hat off a homeless man, does it make the front page of the NY TIMES? I don’t see why this is even covered.

whether you like him or not, to have your work vandalized and your exposition at a great gallery fucked with, it isnt cool for anybody who put their time into it (Lush and the staff of Klughaus)
Its graffiti its not supposed to be in galleries its not supposed to last for ever, don’t get me wrong, not hating Lush his stuff makes laugh and its nice that he don’t take graff to seriously… and I can’t help thinking how fucked up it is that this gets reported to the police, are we not getting into snitching territory here? Where did it all go so wrong?
It all went wrong when 12 oz stopped being a magazine and started being a company.
