Sneak Peek: Mear Paints the “Snow White and the Huntsman” Pop-Up Gallery in LA

Universal Pictures recruited the help of Los Angeles based graffiti writer Mear to transform a space on Melrose Avenue into a pop-up gallery. The temporary exhibition is based around the theme of the new Snow White and the Huntsman film starring Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart opening June 1st. The gallery, however, is popping off this Saturday, May 19, where you will also be able to check out costumes from Colleen Atwood, the film’s 3-time Oscar-winning designer.
Mear was the perfect choice for this collaboration. Though coming from a traditional graffiti background, what sets him apart is his uncanny skills with a spray can, particularly illustrating figurative images transforming walls into dark fantasies. Given the new slant on the classic story that Snow White and the Huntsman presents, Mear’s mural had to reflect a similarly striking angle of its own. He chose to paint the entire piece on a 12-ft mirror, allowing it to shape and influence his vision. 12ozProphet got an exclusive sneak peek at the work in progress.
The entire experience kicks off this Saturday at 7710 Melrose Avenue, in Los Angeles, and runs weekends through Sunday, June 3. The movie, which stars Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, and Charlize Theron, will open on June 1. For more information on the film and event, and to check out the latest trailer, visit the Snow White and the Huntsman website.
