Subway painting duo Moses & Taps™ recently opened their first solo exhibition “Topsprayer Express™” at Ruttkowski68 in Cologne, Germany. If you’re not already familiar with them, these guys are fuckin’ kings. Their biggest claim to fame is painting 1000 trains in 1000 days between 2008 to 2010, an achievement documented in the book International Topsprayer published by Gingko Press. Some trains took the traditional form letter based pieces and other took a more artistic and conceptual approach in the tradition of Futura 2000’s iconic “Break” wholecar.
Moses & Taps™ created an original body of work informed by the aesthetics and techniques utilized in their transit vandalism. Cans are stabbed with paint blasting out uncontrollably onto canvases resulting in colorful abstract works. The surface of another painting is violently scratched through to reveal the layers of paint below. The video above successfully displays the works of art with the painted trains that inspired them and features footage from the opening reception. Moses & Taps™ “Topsprayer Express™” is on display at Ruttkowski68 in Cologne, Germany through March 17th, 2013.
