Music: J. Cole ft. TLC "Crooked Smile"

By - Tuesday, June 4th, 2013

“Crooked Smile”, the most recent release from J. Cole’s upcoming sophomore project Born Sinner due to drop June 18th, is an ode to women everywhere struggling to stay strong. And who better to help convey that message than legendary female R&B powerhouses T-Boz and Chilli of TLC. Cole uses the song to address standards of beauty, material desires and perceptions of women in general. As he is known to do, Cole successfully achieves a balance between industry expectations and a desire to be real and genuine with his lyrics, “Killin’ yourself to find a man that’ll kill for you/ You wake up, put make up on/ Stare in the mirror/ But it’s clear that you can’t face what’s wrong/ No need to fix what God already put his paintbrush on,” the song retains Cole’s classic reflections on the average everyday lifestyle. As a sample of what can be expected on Born Sinner, both in terms of content and featured artists, “Crooked Smile” is pretty promising. The release of “Crooked Smile”, and previously “Power Trip”, have fans predicting that it will be a Cole summer, beginning June 18th when the album drops.
