At times ASAP Rocky’s video for “Monster” will take you back to 1998, to kickin’ it with Biggie and Diddy (at that time Puff Daddy) and the rest of the Bad Boy crew. The neon lights, video screened back ground and a particularly inspiring moonwalking interlude by DC rapper Young Gleesh are reminiscent of that fantastic era of flashy exuberance. Director Shomi Patwary told The Fader, “We were influenced by ’80s movies such as Colors and early ’90s Hype Williams visuals.” The video is the first new music we have heard from Rocky in a minute, and it comes with a surprising statement, as Rocky take shots at apparel lines Been Trill and Hood By Air — to be clear, fashion beef isn’t gangster, it’s just another example of ASAP Rocky being a self-labeled “Pretty Mother Fucker”. Both a solo album from Rocky and an ASAP Mob EP are scheduled for release sometime soon.
