Music Monday: Listen to Mac Miller’s GO:OD AM Before it Drops
Like many who achieve fame at an early age Mac Miller has experienced some rough patches on his path to celebrity. After bursting onto the scene in 2010 mixtape KIDS, Mac struggled to deal with the expectations of his fans and critics. But, since the disappointment of 2011’s Blue Slide Park Mac has managed to reinvent himself into a new artist. A more open an honest version of himself, unafraid to share his emotional struggles.
Much of what you will hear on GO:OD AM will leave you with an understanding that Mac Miller is still searching for his place in life and a saturated music industry. His love for the music is obvious, but often times the direction is unfocused and scattered. The kid can rhyme, that’s never been the knock against him, instead it’s his grasps for originally that usually leave you wanting something more, for him to take that next step.
GO:OD AM drops officially this Friday, but is available to stream on NPR’s First Listen. The album features appearances by Lil B, Chief Keef and Ab Soul and is worth a listen to the curious hip hop fan.
