Always one to push the boundaries of hip hop, Quasimoto, the alter ego of rapper/producer Madlib, recently dropped visuals for the song Catchin the Vibe off of his new album Yessir Whatever.
The song’s lo-fi sound matches the video’s grainy and analog production value, as well as the content of the song which fires a few subtle shots at trend jumping rappers. The video follows a transient Lord Quas, who resembles the Parisian hunch back with whom he shares a name, as he goes through his day collecting materials to create his strange merchandise. By the end of the video it becomes clear what his productions are, homemade dub plates that he peddles to a car load of hip hop heads in an ally way. I guess the true fiends always come back for more of that good don’t they? Anyways, you can chock this up as another strange piece in the portfolio of the mysterious Quasimoto.
