New Show From KAWS, The Man Behind the Movement

By - Thursday, January 28th, 2016

KAWS is one of those names that everybody recognizes. As one of the originators of the street art movement KAWS was able to shift the way people think about graffiti and fine art, where the two can co exist and where they must remain distinct. It’s that balance that has allowed him to be come one of the most notable crossover artists within the scene, working with the likes of Pharrell, Kate Moss and Kanye West.

As a close friend of the 12ozProphet family, it’s only right that we help support him in whatever he does. This time around KAWS is holding his first UK show at the Longside Gallery, and is kicking it off with a new statue in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The ten meter high (That’s about 33 feet for all us Americans) depicts the classic KAWS skull and crossbones figure that first became known for sabotaging ads on the streets of New York City.

The show, which opens on February 6th, is sure to be massive and if we know KAWS, there will be some really captivating new works.  While we unfortunately won’t be able to make the hop across the pond to see it, if you’re anywhere near the area you should definitely check it out.
