News: Barry McGee Stirs Up Controversy in Sydney Australia

By - Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Recent murals by Barry McGee have become a hotbed for debate in Sydney, Australia. The City Council of Sydney is being accused of vandalism after commissioning McGee to be a part of the Art & About festival which incorporates art into the streets rather than in a gallery setting. According to 7news McGee was given permission, and $15,000 of local council funding, to paint a certain wall along Tank Stream Way, but hit an adjacent wall as well. Some Sydneysiders see this as a work of art while others view it as a blight. Sydney City Council has reportedly apologised for the artist but is allowing the work to remain through it’s planned run.
