News: Michael Moore and Susan Sarandon Show Support for the Occupy Wall Street Movement
The Occupy Wall Street movement is gaining more attention, not only from police brutality videos, but also from celebrity support.
Susan Sarandon as well as Michael Moore joined forces with occupiers, repeating a message of: “We are the 99 percent that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1 percent.” Michael Moore has been conducting interviews and speeches, while Sarandon seems to be more set on passing out words of advice and encouragement.
An exact definition of the intentions of the Occupy Wall Street movement seems hard to pin down—something Sarandon took notice of. She told protesters that they “don’t want the face of your movement to look like discontented people that don’t know what they’re talking about,” warning that “Your weakness is that there are so many issues. You’re going to be easy to be dismissed if you don’t concentrate on a single cause.” A longer and more comprehensive list of reasons from those occupying Wall Street along with a Michael Moore interview can be seen here.
Comedian Roseanne Barr and Lupe Fiasco have also been spotted in the area, in support of the occupiers. Some protesters frowned at the celebrity appearances, concerned that the attention on the movement would become about their presence. One protester did note, however, that even most celebrities don’t make enough money to be within the first percentile of income.
